Annamalai Poised to Exit BJP Amid Leadership Rift and Set Up New Political Outfit in Tamil Nadu

According to sources cited by India Today TV, Annamalai has declined all offers extended by the BJP’s central leadership. He is expected to float a new political party that will position itself against Dravidian model politics and adopt a more nationalist ideological framework. His next move remains uncertain, with speculation also indicating the possibility of a non-political movement alongside or instead of a formal party formation.

Annamalai’s tenure as state BJP president from 2021 to 2025 was marked by aggressive grassroots mobilisation, anti-corruption campaigns, and sustained criticism of both the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. While this strategy significantly increased the BJP’s visibility and vote share, it also strained the party’s alliances in the state.

Tensions between the BJP and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam escalated following Annamalai’s remarks on Dravidian leaders C. N. Annadurai and J.
